Paper chains represent many things. Linking of cultures, the joining of hearts, Christmas decorations or just for the fun of it!
What do paper chains represent?
Measurements may vary, but we recommend strips that are 1″ wide by 8″ long. Cut as many as you need, depending on how long you want your chain to be. Paste, tape, or staple the ends of the first strip together to form a loop. If you are using glue, hold the two ends of paper together until the glue properly dries.
What are the measurements for a paper chain?
Paper chains are a fabulous, festive decoration as they are simple to make, colourful and can be as long and elaborate as you like. Your kids can join in with the cutting and sticking (with supervision) and will love watching the paper chain grow!
Why do we have paper chains at Christmas?
Paper chains were first seen in the UK during the 1850s where they were used to decorate Christmas trees. In those days when money was scarce, newspapers were used to make them. We love this simple pared-back idea so we’ve decided to make our own from some Christmas wrap.
What is paper chain activity?
Activity. Show the children how create a chain by taping two ends of a strip of paper together to make a circle. Put another strip through the circle, tape its two ends together, and continue looping each new strip through the circle to make a chain. Give them five minutes to make as many as they can.
